One more time

This piece of furniture was the very first thing I ever found in the trash :)  I drug it home and refinished it probably about 11 years ago.
You can see a "before" picture here on my Pickers page.
Doodlebug used a screwdriver to "help" some holes get bigger so I couldn' t really keep it wood....I've been thinking about redoing this piece since like February.  So FINALLY it made it to the garage.  I sanded with 220 sandpaper and wiped it down with deglosser just to get the corners really good.  Painted the inside with "Sea Salt Blue"
Bought these cute little legs and mounting plates at Lowe's.  They were about $18.
Painted the outside with "Cracked Pepper".  This is the same color combination I used on the bookshelf we just re-did.  Painted the legs up...and then waxed the whole thing.
Now we have a brand new entertainment center!!!! And all for just about $20 in supplies and some elbow grease from yours truly.

I think the legs are great....They really change the way it looks.
This is all part of the master plan in my head to change and redo my living room :)  So far I've spent about $100.  That's for the slipcovers, pillow shams, two new rugs, the entertainment center, and I did some things with what I already had on hand. More photos to come....
And this piece came from our dining room so I rearranged furniture in there too....:) my brain NEVER stops people.  It felt good to finally get this idea out of my head!

$2 mirrors

Spent a whopping $1 on this mirror.  And I love it hanging in my bathroom.  I'm sure if I wanted to I could have it re-silvered (you can see where it's got spots that have rubbed off) but I like it just the way it is.
This one was also $1.  And it's a huge improvement over the plastic one that's been propped against our closet wall :).  And it goes great with our dresser we bought this Spring!
Oh....the feedsack chair went to WC on Saturday evening.  She's closed on Sunday &Monday and it sold Tuesday.....wow.....

Bookshelf shoe storage

Not sure if this will work or not......a friend of mine saw this on Pinterest.  (Don't even get me started people I CANNOT do another computer thing but if I were going to this would be it! )
here's
what she saw and here's what we had....PERFECT.
Here it is with her very own shoes in it :)  And below is how it started....
Here's our bookcase "before".  You can see some of the peeling finish at the top.

But overall a beautiful old piece of furniture.  There are 4 adjusting shelves inside and the doors were in really good shape.  We painted her inside and out.  A lot of prep work.  Some sanding and some liquid sandpaper both.  (And some chocolate donuts.....in the upper left corner)  Hey it's naptime people---anything goes!!!
The doors were the most work by far.  We had everything painted up and when I pulled the tape off you could see all the messiness on the inside trim piece holding the glass in.  My husband ended up taking the trim off and completely taking the glass out.  Then we repainted.  Much better!
And of course here she is in all her glorious "diva" beauty waiting to be filled with shoes!!!
I have to say there is something REALLY satisfying about seeing the finished piece sitting in the store with all the other pretty pieces.  Linking to....

Auction Finds

My husband and I have so much fun shopping flea markets and going to auctions together...this is our first time actually purchasing at an auction and it was an interesting one.

This mirror is for ME; actually it goes perfectly with our bedroom furniture and we had one of those little, cheapy plastic mirrors propped in our closet forever.  Total cost here $1 :)  I bought another mirror for $1 (you can see the back of it in the photo below).  It's destined for our hallway bathroom.
This fan was sitting off to the side.  The auction was pretty small and so was the crowd.  It was also on a Thursday evening.  So they'd said if there was something you were interested in to ask and they'd push it to the front.  We were ready to leave and I was pretty interested...no one else bid on it.
How great is this typewriter?!!?!?  It's a 1922 Remington. We've looked them up on line and if you can find the right buyer they go pretty high.  We were excited to get it!  I REALLY wanna keep this one.  I gotta think about it for awhile and decide what I want to do.

This is a time card holder!  Would be great as a bill organizer or to hold Christmas cards at the Holidays....lots of possibilities....
This chair is so great.  If we didn't already have a desk/office chair I'd be wanting to keep it too!  It's so solid....
And here's the bookcase all finished up and sitting in the store waiting to go home with a lucky girl to store some shoes :) I'm going to do another post on it later in the week to show the before and afters.  Busy, busy and having fun finding things...the best part is you know they'd probably end up in the trash and you're "saving" them and giving them a whole new life!

Feedsack upholstered chair

Just a reminder of what we started with below...
The red was vinyl and you can see the tear on the seat...  but she's really solid.  And she looks really different now.
I'm sold on using the wax to finish furniture.  I just used the Minwax furniture paste wax off the shelf at Lowes.  You brush it on really thin.  After it dries well you buff it with a clean, dry cloth.
It makes everything nice and smooth and it has a beautiful sheen to it.  Not too shiny but not matte.
I was able to do the whole chair with two feedsacks.  I used one sack for the front and back of the upper section; and part of a second one for the seat.
The trim does really finish it off nicely...
I used the "Sprinkler" color underneath and the color on top is called "Fresh Linen".
Really happy with the whole thing.  I learned alot!!!
We went to an auction tonight so I'll post what we found here soon.  Some things for us and some things for the shop too!!!  So of course I'm linking  to  Furniture Feature Fridays

Just can't wait!

Remember this chair?!?!?  I still need to add trim so technically it's still not done but I'm so excited to share I just couldn't wait!
Check her out NOW....
Dang that Miss Mustard Seed!!!  She' s a genius.  I wish I could say this was my idea but I totally stole it from her.  And now I am HOOKED!

I mean really, it's just a crazy good idea.  And this is my first reupholstering attempt.  Never done it before --so what a fun way to start.  Also the first time I've used wax to finish a painted piece and I have to say I'm in love with the finish it gives.  There will be another post on this little beauty once she's "offically" finished but like I said...just couldn't wait on this one!!!

Next on the list!

I'm starting on this cute little chair.  I have those feed sacks from a flea market trip and I'm going to totally steal Miss Mustard Seed's style and make a feed sack chair.
This bookcase came from last week-end's trip to the Flea market and we were going to fix her up for Winsome Cottage.  She's pretty...nice glass doors, 4 adjustable shelves inside....
We sold both our little tables and some smaller items so this was a bigger piece to replace those.  BUT my friend called from her shop the other day and said "I think I have someone who wants to buy your bookcase" so it's already spoken for!
She's going to be "Cracked Pepper" black with an interior color called "Sea Salt Blue" that I'm totally in love with.  It will be going in our living room in the near future I think :)

Chair

I have to admit that when we shop I am drawn to kids' furniture.  I guess that's only natural as a momma, but there 's something really sweet about knowing that children have used a piece of furniture. And you're going to save it from being cast aside, spruce it up and give it some more love!
The lowly before photo of this adorable little chair.  I fell in love with the lines and shape of her.  Definitely unique as kid's chairs go....
 Here she is after...
The bright blue underneath is "Spinkler"
The color on top is "Urban Sunrise"  The artwork is all mine.  Free hand with some "permenal" paint.  Doodlebugs' term for acrylics.
Speaking of Doodlebug here he is being a "dare debil" trying to ramp his tricycle...
He's not intense or anything...I can't even think about him being older if he's trying to be a dare devil at age 3....
And his latest artwork is on the Little Artists page. Entitled "Happy Sheep"...check it out :)

Another necklace

This one is for a dear friend I go to church with who's husband is a police officer...
I love this idea.  I've done alot of mother's necklaces and things of that nature but this is really special.
Nice to do something for her.  I have such a huge respect and admiration for our police officers and especially their families!
Today I finished up the little kids' chair I bought over the weekend and a couple of pillow slips for the store.  We may have sold both of our metal topped tables!!!  I cannot believe how quickly things are selling.  The LORD has truly blessed.
