Vintage Graphics

We are getting really excited about the new Peddler's Mall opening right down the road from us....
One of my favorite things about "vintage" goods is the labeling and graphics so that's what I decided to share...
Our very first go at selling things on our own!  We have been making and gathering in anticipation of setting up our space which is now only a couple of weeks away.
So I just wanted to give a little taste of what we'll have for sale....
there is so much more but right now it's scattered wherever we can find a space.
As we get closer to opening day we'll post more photos.

Scott's Antique show Columbus

This past week-end we went to Columbus for the Scott's Antique show for the first time....
We bought a few things
This "how to draw" scroll which probably came from the top of a children's art easel.
You roll the knobs on the right and it has a several different things laid out step by step....
Doodlebug already tried this one out!

We also snagged this really cool industrial light....
The shade is a spun aluminum piece which fascinates my husband.....
 This nice little, aluminum lunchbox
 Which even had thermos inside...
And a third Fire King mug
( I already had 2 of these)
because they bring back so many fond memories of drinking hot cocoa on snow days.
I also picked up a set of 6 Fire King dessert cups and a sweet little 60's dress...
We enjoyed looking at everything and would definitely go back---another one coming up next month!

Sign and Flea Market

This past week-end was the big Springfield Extravaganza at the Clark County fairgrounds here in Ohio....it's huge...over 2000 vendors this year I think....
And this sign is my Mother's Day gift!!!  How cool is it?!?!??!  Someday it will be Mighty's ---
the child has whole obsession with shoes and she's not even 2 yet....
It was even one of the first words she said really clearly...
We are in love with old signage like most other people out there who decorate with vintage bits and pieces
----it's usually way out of our price range.
We mostly just Oooo and Ahhhh over the really cool ones, but this one caught my eye because it was not the typical "old sign" you usually see..... and it's for shoes...so how can you go wrong?????
The price tag said $50 which was making me really think about it and the gentlemen that were running the booth said "what are you looking at or thinking about there?"
When we said it was the sign, one of them said "Let me help you decide--I'll take $30 for it"
SOLD!
I also bought these numbers and letters...
That's the year we got married
and the first letters of my kids' names which I have another idea for....
They were 2 for $1 and pretty sticky but I used some WD-40 and they cleaned right up....
I'm in love with my sign though...
I could've painted one to look old, but you just can't replicate REAL patina....
Love the style of her, the colors, the lettering...
she's a keeper!

Wagon Wheel Starburst

Since I bought my $5 dining set way back last summer I've had this new obsession with Midcentury Modern furniture and decor.
I'm all over the place when it comes to decorating.  We have all sorts of "eras" represented in our home.  But I've been on the look out for a starburst clock to hang over the TV.....
They are expensive.
I've also looked around at all the DIY projects with shims and paint sticks where people glue them to the back of a round mirror creating the same type look....
But I think what makes for good DIY doesn't LOOK like DIY and I wasn't really sold on anything I saw
Recently we ventured out to one of our favorite outdoor flea markets that we've been waiting all winter to get back to....
Only we took Doodlebug with us--
it turned into a total disaster and we left early
so we stopped at another little indoor flea market on the way home and I spied this...
Perfect.
Love everything about it---
the patina
the size
the broken spokes
The same look as a starburst clock but different.
I LOVE different!!!
I would really like to hang it on the wall over the TV but with having the house for sale I've decided to leave it on the bookcase for now....
It would make a really cool light fixture too...

Valentine's Day

My sweet husband and I are soul mates...there's just no way we would have made it through each of our first marriages and gotten together without God...
Below is a link to a beautiful song that reminds me of us....
We enjoy doing everything together ---raising our family, serving in our church, making just about anything and everything,
just making a life together...
And we love to shop flea markets and antique shops together...
finding unique things to create our home

I found this set of eight Pyrex cups and saucers and had to have them.  They are timeless....
The color is gorgeous... And the red striped towel (in the photo below) I now have three of...vintage linens are yummy...
I saw a lot of other Fire King and Pyrex pieces (mixing bowls, small cereal bowls, etc.) I'd love to have...something fun to hunt for when we're out scouring the flea markets and antique stores...
My husband is a bit obsessed with collecting lunch boxes and thermoses so the red one with the black stripes is our latest addition...
And I have been on the hunt for a chair to add to our living room for quite awhile... over a year.
We don't have a lot of space, so I was thinking a small armchair that I could slipcover or reupholster....then we saw this set....
And they are actually really comfortable.
Perfect in scale and two instead of one.  They're good for now...eventually I may have to reupholster them, but I'll live with them for awhile before I decide.
I love creating a unique home.  We buy what we love and that's it.  Doesn't really matter if it's old or new or where it comes from...
It's ours and that's what matters....

Flea market treasures repurposed

This is a new bracelet I made for my Aunt...it didn't come from the flea market :) but the feed sack underneath it did!
There is just something about vintage fabrics and linens that always catches my eye....
So I spied this basket in the corner of a booth with all these neatly folded kitchen towels that were just lovely and faded but underneath them....
This little stack of treasures...8 to be exact.
The best part was the price--- other than ebay I'm having a hard time even finding them.
I actually paid $10 for the last one I bought...
And I'm thinking about how I want to use them...haven't decided on that yet but my brain will be working on it for awhile...
I did decide that this one would be a great hamper for the kids' room.
I'm thinking about sewing a piece of twine to it to hang it but I haven't decided...

I have been on a total tear cleaning and sorting and rearranging since the new year.  And this was my next little treasure.
It's a frog...for arranging flowers.  Only right now I'll be using it to store my make-up brushes & all those little goodies that end up at the bottom of the make-up bag.  I'm thinking it might eventually go on my worktable to organize pens and pencils and scissors...
Actually I have some other ideas I could use it for too, but I'm turning my brain off on this one for now!  I love the green chippy paint on the metal....
And Doodlebug is totally OBSESSED with tape right now...I think we've gone through 3 rolls since Christmas.
So when we saw this I had to get it....We just put a little table under his bed for him to "craft" on--so this is perfect...
Last find ---very cool wood and metal pulley.  And I finally get to use the red barn light we bought waaaaayyy back at the beginning of the summer!!!!  I'm so excited to see it hanging in their room ---it's perfect...
We also purchased some adorable red, metal booster seats (used in restaurants in the 50s)...but we dropped them off at the shop so I'll have to try to get some photos of those another time...
It was hard to let them go.  The red was perfect for their room and they were just the right size for Mighty!

Gas station inspired stool

On our last outing to the flea market we found this little beauty....
I love stuff like this...lots of patina...chippy paint in several layers...
Here's how she looks now--
My husband is into hotrods (and all things related) so we thought it might be fun to do something along those lines....
I was thrilled with how great it turned out.
And we clear coated it to seal it all up so it's a little more user friendly...
Overall a pretty sweet little find!  She's already at Winsome Cottage waiting to be taken to a new home....

New finds....

What a great day we had today!  Went to the flea market with my sis-in-law and brother-in-law and their kiddos and my aunt and uncle.
Here 's what we came home with today....we always look for furniture to redo but didn't see anything that really grabbed us today....
So it was a day of "smalls" which was actually pretty fun to shop for...the stool may get powder coated.  Or it may not.  And I have some ideas for the glass insulators...
This little 2 drawer filing cabinet actually had some  old index cards and letters stuffed in the back.  One letter had a six cent stamp on it!
 This bucket is pretty unique....
And Martha Stewart Living just did a whole feature on ice choppers....
Of course my downfall is shopping for myself...  I found this really cool old pencil sharpener which I was thrilled with.

And this box which is a perfect twin to one we already own that currently stores all things "puzzle".  What are the chances?!?!?

Overall a great day.  The weather wasn't as hot as we thought it was going to be and the rain held off so we got to do lots of shopping and rooting around  in all the wonderful junk!!!!
