Sundial Cloth Covered Wire

 We purchased this sweet little clock at Springfield this past week-end.  So my husband, being the stickler for detail that he is, purchased some *VERY* cool cloth covered wire to add to it.

 If you're into the vintage look you have to check out their stuff!!!  Go to sundialwire.com --they have all sorts of color options and different gauges, etc.  This is a great resource for vintage electrical pieces.

 I was so excited to get going I didn't do photos of wiring up the plug.  It's pretty simple.  You strip the wires (I have those photos below) the same way you do to wire to the clock itself.  Only there are two little screws inside the case of the plug that you wrap your cord wires to.  Then you tighten those screws and put on a little plastic cover.

 Unwiring the old plug...the little metal wires are just twisted together...untwist those.

 Pull the cloth back and there is a plastic covering on these wires as well.  You'll need wire strippers to remove that and expose the wires.  You'll need about and inch or so to work with...

 Our wire was 18 gauge --your wire strippers are marked for different gauge wires.  You're cutting up to the wire without cutting the wire itself off...

 Put the cloth wire up through the opening in the clock...you can see the copper wire exposed at the tops of the cloth cord....

 Twist your wire together --splitting the cord wires so you have two separate pieces and then twist one to each of the cords coming from the clock itself....

 Twist on some wire nuts.  They cover the exposed wire and you tighten them until they won't tighten anymore....

 Ohhhh she looks good like this!!!!  Love it!  We actually wanted the red cloth wire but it was backordered in the size we needed....

 He sooooo deserves this...for those of you who know my husband he's pretty quiet and reserved in public....at home it's a different story....I'll leave it at that....

 And there she is....I've been rearranging living room furniture AGAIN.  Because I cannot be still apparently....The cool little lamp was a Goodwill purchase.  I just loved the tall shade for some reason.  And I stole the fern idea from Melissa at Cass House...love her blog...check out the beautiful home they live in, and have been working on fixing up if you get a chance!

 And I re-did the little table.  My uncle made it for me and I'm planning a post on that.  I used some blue wax....a pretty nifty little technique--tinting your wax with paint!

The bathroom is so close to being finished.  My husband is finishing up the big sink install as I type this....photos of that soon too!

Sign and Flea Market

This past week-end was the big Springfield Extravaganza at the Clark County fairgrounds here in Ohio....it's huge...over 2000 vendors this year I think....

 And this sign is my Mother's Day gift!!!  How cool is it?!?!??!  Someday it will be Mighty's ---

the child has whole obsession with shoes and she's not even 2 yet....

It was even one of the first words she said really clearly...

 We are in love with old signage like most other people out there who decorate with vintage bits and pieces
----it's usually way out of our price range.

 We mostly just Oooo and Ahhhh over the really cool ones, but this one caught my eye because it was not the typical "old sign" you usually see..... and it's for shoes...so how can you go wrong?????

 The price tag said $50 which was making me really think about it and the gentlemen that were running the booth said "what are you looking at or thinking about there?" 

When we said it was the sign, one of them said "Let me help you decide--I'll take $30 for it"

SOLD!

 I also bought these numbers and letters...

That's the year we got married 

and the first letters of my kids' names which I have another idea for....

 They were 2 for $1 and pretty sticky but I used some WD-40 and they cleaned right up....

I'm in love with my sign though...

I could've painted one to look old, but you just can't replicate REAL patina....

Love the style of her, the colors, the lettering...

she's a keeper!

MCM Chair

 This post is totally to brag about my uber cool midcentury modern chair...

That I paid a whopping $2 for!!!!!

 If you 've read other more obscure posts you might already know I 'm a runner...

and I've found some good stuff that way...

 Where I run isn't exactly a "high class" part of town...and you sometimes see things like a 90's Astro Van with spinners...or a hot tub in the front yard...

 The up side to this is that you find little gems like this----for $2....

There's an older gentleman that sits out in his driveway with his garage open; and he always has a wide array of junk...

no sign that says "Garage Sale" or "For sale" or anything even remotely close.

 I should explain here that I am my father's daughter.  I think I could talk to anyone...and I do!  I'm the weird lady that starts talking to your baby in line at the grocery store.  Sorry if that annoys you--  I just can't help it :)

 So I spy this gorgeous chair and I KNOW I have to save it.  It should live where it is appreciated....

I walk up his driveway and ask what's going on with all his stuff...is it for sale???  

He was very nice but very hard of hearing.  So when I say I "asked" I was really shouting :)
Mostly he just wanted to talk and show me all his treasures.  And I do appreciate a good treasure stash....so I looked at more of his things 

and I found another cute little chair I'll be showing you soon.

 $4 total for both chairs...

and a new junk spot to keep an eye on...you just never know...

 She's all cleaned up and right there in the corner of our living room...happy as can be to be living in a new place with a new family to love her...

Stylish Toddler Chair

 I have to admit that I get a little tired of all the "plastic" kids' stuff....

We put the high chair in the basement awhile back and have just been using one of those plastic travel high chairs strapped to one of our kitchen chairs.... I was excited to find this little toddler chair at the flea market this past weekend...

 The best part about this little cutie is that it is VERY similar in style to our kitchen chairs....

so well worth $10

 The kiddos were both with Grandma today so it was the perfect day to knock out this project...

 I wanted it to be something fun, but still go along with our furniture.  So I used the "oxygen white" color we just used in the living room--

 Hand painted this cute little retro pattern in black acrylic paint on the seat...

The idea actually came from some fabric I saw and pinned on pinterest...

 Used the "gekko" color (which is the color on our chairs) for the back and the footrest...

 This will not only get rid of the pink, plastic travel high chair---but also give us back another adult seat....

 Sooooo much better!!!!

 And I think we may even steal the safety straps from another chair and screw them into this one so she'll be latched in....

 Fun fun fun to do things for my sweet babies!!!  She already loves it and has been climbing in and out of it....

 I'm so thankful for our quirky little girl...she makes us laugh all the time and has quite the personality...

This face is usually reserved for Doodlebug--
 but if you say "Show me your eyebrows!" 
she makes this face....then she looks around for her brother...they're a mess just like their parents!!!!

Midcentury Modern Sofa and...new business cards

Oh me oh my...you just never know what treasures you'll find when you look at online auctions..

Recently I spotted this sofa on one that we frequently check and no one was bidding.  So I did-- thinking it would go pretty cheap, and it would be a great first piece to reupholster.  I have been wanting something this style for awhile now but most of them are already "redone" and way out of our price range.

Here she is in the bed of the truck when we brought her home...

But the photos online weren't that great.  And at the end someone started bidding against me.  What!?!?!?  Which extends the auction by 5 minutes.  So it was going alot higher than I anticipated but in my mind I had already redone it and--I can admit it--  I was emotionally attached.  After 3 extensions on the time I finally won my sofa...only I was worried I was going to be sorry how much I'd spent....$140.  But when we picked her up...

I was thrilled--she is in incredible shape! 

It has these cast metal legs---one of which was broken (in the back) so I used the same legs I used on the shelf I turned into an entertainment center.  They're about $4 apiece at Lowe's.

And I gotta admit I am really digging the leopard print on this sofa :) now I'm taking my time picking out what fabric I'm going to buy to make a slipcover....I just can't reupholster it...

And my orange pillow cushions don't look half bad on there either...

This sofa is awesome.  Whoever it belonged to probably rarely used it...the cushions are like new...

So I rented the steamer from Lowe's and cleaned it GOOD.  

And our carpets are shockingly clean now...

This little folding metal table came from the same auction site, and you can see the replacement legs in the back of the sofa in this photo too...

She's got personality to spare...

I'm pretty sure I have a paint color picked out for the walls...I've been looking at it for about a week now making sure it's what I really want.  That's coming soon too and long overdue...

On a different note my multi-talented husband whipped up this label design and we had some printed up on business cards...

They came today!

  We've been wanting something simple to "tag" our things with...so this is what he came up with.  What can I say...the man has great taste!!!
