Stylish Toddler Chair

I have to admit that I get a little tired of all the "plastic" kids' stuff....
We put the high chair in the basement awhile back and have just been using one of those plastic travel high chairs strapped to one of our kitchen chairs.... I was excited to find this little toddler chair at the flea market this past weekend...
The best part about this little cutie is that it is VERY similar in style to our kitchen chairs....
so well worth $10
The kiddos were both with Grandma today so it was the perfect day to knock out this project...
I wanted it to be something fun, but still go along with our furniture.  So I used the "oxygen white" color we just used in the living room--
Hand painted this cute little retro pattern in black acrylic paint on the seat...
The idea actually came from some fabric I saw and pinned on pinterest...
Used the "gekko" color (which is the color on our chairs) for the back and the footrest...
This will not only get rid of the pink, plastic travel high chair---but also give us back another adult seat....
 Sooooo much better!!!!
And I think we may even steal the safety straps from another chair and screw them into this one so she'll be latched in....
Fun fun fun to do things for my sweet babies!!!  She already loves it and has been climbing in and out of it....
Check out some of the many faces of Mighty...
I'm so thankful for our quirky little girl...she makes us laugh all the time and has quite the personality...
This face is usually reserved for Doodlebug--
but if you say "Show me your eyebrows!"
she makes this face....then she looks around for her brother...they're a mess just like their parents!!!!

Union Jack VanHook style

So I,
(like everyone else looking at Miss Mustard Seed's blog)
have seen alot of the Union Jack trend in painted furniture...
mostly on the fronts of dressers....
And in the traditional red, white and blue
I decided to deviate from that...
We'll see how it goes over....
It would make a great little eat in kitchen table
or a desk for an office or craft room...
This is also the first try at using the ASPC on metal...
It went on great and dried quick.
Marykay told us Sunday that our little "arles" zinc topped table sold this weekend and is headed to Norway!!!
Wow...VanHook & co. is going international!!!
And we went to Springfield in the nasty cold rainy weather this past week-end but actually found some really good stuff--so it was worth it....
as always more to come...

Handmade Leather Bag

I revisited one of the first things I made to sell--
purses
I've lost a little of my mojo I think!   I forgot some of my little tricks and remembered them as I was making the mistakes...

Awhile back my husband started looking at the Billykirk website.
(There's a link under "Inspirations" over on the bottom right..)
They make these amazingly simple hand stitched leather goods ---
one of which is a shoulder bag.

I cannot get them out of my head.  And they're more than a little out of my price range...
I'm going to have to take a go at making one here soon.

While we were at Tandy Leather to buy things for that project ---
I spotted this gorgeous remnant  of leather and had to buy it.  I think I paid $13 for it.
This bag used about 1/2 of it...

This bag was sewn on my Sailrite sewing machine.  So I'll have to try it again now that I've brushed up my skills!!!  Felt good to make one; I always enjoyed doing it and this leather was really beautiful....

Humble Home tour #2

  ***SIGH***
That's how I feel when I think about trying to sell our home & move.  It's been a really long journey...
It's funny to see how much has changed!  I've been  slowly but surely working on the living room all year long
....here's the post I did last year when we had it up for sale.
When the photographer came this week to take photos for our listing online
she comes in the front door and says--
"WOW this home has got some personality!"

I've decided to take that as a compliment ;)
She had some very nice things to say so I'm pretty sure that's how she meant it...
I didn't tell her that most of our home is furnished with "trash" finds!!!!
It's nice to see it all clean and neat looking...
we have two small children
I assure you it never looks like this!!!
We're planning a trip to an outdoor flea market tomorrow and I have a few things I'm on the hunt for...
I'd love to find some kitchen canisters or maybe some new pyrex or fire king pieces...
We'll see!
Our hall bathroom with my $1 auction mirror...
Here's the main reason we'll have to move eventually...
our son and daughter's shared room...
Mighty is going to be outgrowing her baby crib soon....
But they actually share the room really well and I have to admit that's how I'd prefer for my kids to grow up...
 Our room...
 Second bathroom...
 Our front porch...
I decided on some ferns this year....hopefully they live all summer.
 And the backyard...
at least this year everything is green in the photos.
Last year they took photos in February and it was all brown and grey looking....
We'll see what happens....
I have a fun piece of furniture I've been working on this week...I'm excited to finish it up and post some photos.

More to come...

Bib Necklace

Another necklace I made from some more of my Grandma's beads.
This is a combination of 2 different pieces I put together.
I love all the bib style necklaces and will probably end up making something a little more complicated now that I've done this one...
I'm on the hunt for some vintage beads that just grab me so I have something fun to work with!

Rose Polka Dot chair

We got this little beauty along with the Victrola I painted with the argyle doors....
Chairs can be really tricky....
They are hard to fix if they're loose or rickety.  You pretty much have to take it apart to glue it back together.
She wasn't too bad.  Just a little loose at the top joint which we were able to glue and clamp back together.

So I painted her with the same base color I used on the Victrola...
French Linen and Paris Grey mixed.
Distressed her and removed the old green velvet upholstery....which always involves prying out a bunch of staples...
Recovered the seat in this fun orange and pink polka dot fabric.
And we delivered this to the shop along with the Victrola....
I took WAY too many photos but it was so gorgeous outside that day....
Marykay had been telling me that she wanted to use the Barcelona color ---which is orange--on some pieces for her Spring window....
So when we dropped the two pieces off to her, she and her husband decided to put them in one of her two large display windows...
To see the window display click HERE---a link to her own blog post...
And I got a phone call the next morning---
someone called her right after opening the shop to buy BOTH pieces!!!!
Wow.  So humbling--I am always floored when things to go that fast....
And our house is "officially" back on the market...
More on that soon
since the photographer was here  yesterday afternoon....
