Bunny love

A little bunny I sewed for a upcoming baby shower....

I think I'm probably going to have to make one of these for each of my own kiddos...Mighty just wants to love on it so I have to put it up where she can't get it!  And Doodlebug just keeps talking to it....

 And I have been cranking out some felted mittens to take to Winsome Cottage.  I did some tutorial posts on those along with the pattern I use back in February when I first started blogging.  There is a huge festival coming up and I'm trying to get them to the store....

It's a great time to start thinking about gift making for the Holidays!  Check out the felting/fulling post here.  You can make several sets of mittens from one large men's sweater....more to come on that later....

get away

It 's so good to get away!  We haven't gone anywhere since before Doodlebug was born...I mean not even a week-end away somewhere....

My mom wanted our whole family to go away together so this past week end we went to Hocking Hills...

We had a great time fishing, a little hiking, alot of eating :)

 Family is good....

Pedal car

A friend from our church asked us where to take her pedal car to get it cleaned up a little bit....:)

To which my husband replied "I'd love to work on it!"

How cool is this little beauty?!?!!?!?

 And this is all my talented husband's handiwork...Totally disassembled her and sandblasted some parts.

 And here they are after...Big difference!  She's all cleaned up and ready to go somewhere.

 This was so much fun to see!  Looking at parts and getting her all cleaned up.  He decided to wet sand the body with 400, 500 then 600 grit sandpaper to knock down the rust.  Then the whole thing got a good waxing....

 The steering wheel, wheels, and pedal parts all got sandblasted and repainted.  The dash,--which has a little music box "radio"!---the tires, chromed hubcaps, and the little fender ornaments were all replacement parts....

 She was just so much fun to see coming together...a really cool project....

Argyle desk

This little desk was a fun piece.  I wanted to try painting an argyle pattern on the drawers....

 We bought both pieces from an online auction so they weren't originally a set.  But I wanted to paint both of them anyways...

 I wasn't going to sand the chair but I decided just to rub it lightly with some 220 grit sand paper since  I had to fill a little missing piece on the back with some wood filler...

 You can see my new dining room set lurking in the background and I used the "Gekko" color on those chairs so I decided to use it as part of my argyle pattern...

 Two different shades of grey for the main diamond pattern....

 I'm sure there is a great way to lay that all out mathematically using a yard stick :)  I however am totally challenged in that area so I made a diamond template and traced it out the way I wanted....

 I don't have photos of that step.  This was going on the same week-end as my kiddos birthday party so I had more important things on my mind!

 The chair has the "Gekko" color underneath the white.  I used a piece of drop cloth fabric and painted the ticking with acrylic paints.  Both pieces were finished with a coat of wax...

She turned out pretty girly!  The hardware is so beautiful.  And made a big difference.  If I did this again I'd probably distress the drawers before painting the argyle and then go back and distress that separately.  But overall I got the look I was going for.....the argyle was fun!

Hot Vanilla recipe

I'm totally addicted to this warm drink.  Hot Chocolate is great but this is a nice change!  Especially if you're a vanilla lover....

1 cup of milk

1tsp. vanilla

sprinkle of nutmeg (to taste)

2Tblsp of sugar

Dining room set complete!

 And now it's complete!  I couldn't be happier with how the whole thing turned out...

 I was able to sand most of the stains off the top and I stained it with a dark walnut stain...which I decided to go ahead and do to the bottom also...

 We actually gained quite a bit of table space but somehow the whole thing seems to take up a lot less space...

 Chairs are nice and low and the legs of the table are really straight and simple....

$5 for the whole set...even with the leather, paint, & stain we're still way under $200 total.
