Hand painted Argyle Victrola

Now I am totally obsessed with the color orange!
I made these orange pillow shams and drew on them with bleach pens and then I was hooked...
We bought this Victrola to spruce up and sell at the store.  She was missing all the insides but I was happy to see the label still there...
I mixed my Paris Grey and French Linen about 1/2 of each--I'm not a measurer!!
 and painted the outside....
This is my template I use for argyle patterns...
I start with a straight level line (in this case the top of the door) and trace this pattern out on the door. Paint the solid diamonds with acrylic paint, distress those.
Then I use the same template to trace out the offset lines in this case the turquoise and then distress that...
My new waxing brush...which I LOVE.  I had been using a Purdy brush with a rubber band around it to keep the bristles tight.
So here she is all finished up.
Curvy legs...and some dark wax on this piece too...
Some new hardware too.  Although I saved the originals and I'm sure they'll end up on something else...
Overall she was a really nice, solid little piece for being how old she is.
I knew I wanted to do a little something extra on the doors.  And I love color.  I know going this bold isn't for everyone --which I have to admit makes me hesitate since it's something we're trying to sell.
But so far our motto has been if it's not something we would have in our home then we shouldn't try selling it...
So I'm curious--is this something you would put in your home or does the orange scare you?????

    1. Thanks Peggy! I know...I'm not an orange person..usually lean towards the blues and greens, but it was obviously the right choice...it sold as SOON as she put it in the display window.

  9. I love it...I would totally put it in my house. We follow that same motto, it's gotta be something we'd put in our house...and if it doesn't sell, we can usually find some place for it in our house. :)Great job!

  13. Hi, I'm visiting from Lauren @ West Furniture...and I adore the orange! My favorite color at the moment. I have redone a few taller victrola cabinets, but would love to find one like this. Love the argyle...I may just borrow that idea. Thanks for being inspiring...keep it up!
