French Style Dining Room table and chairs

This was a cherry table we bought that came with a couple of leaves...
And 2 different sets of chairs I painted to go with it....
I have been really bad about taking my "before" photos lately!
I remembered to take before photos of the chairs....I found 4 wheat backed chairs which I LOVE...
And another set of 4 with shorter backs....not as "pretty" but I like the mix of 2 different styles. And I was planning on painting them the same color to unify it all anyways...
I really wanted to do something "extra" on the top of her...I had some floral ideas kicking around in my head but wasn't really happy with them when I drew them out with chalk...
I finally decided to do a harlequin pattern with yellow on top of this grey color (I mixed Paris Grey and French Linen) The photo below is before I distressed it.
I think pieces of furniture that look REALLY well done have designs, colors and just a "look" that really works together as one idea.  So I try to be careful when I add something.  I have many ideas I want to try with furniture but it all has to work together or it comes off looking forced and it just doesn't work...
I also wanted the pattern to work with or without the leaves ---one or both.  Tricky.  So the diamond had to fit exactly in the leaves...which are 10" wide.  That determined the size of the diamonds.  I would've preferred to make the pattern larger...
I started with a 7" square/diamond and I measured off the first leaf (I laid the pattern out with the leaves in) then used a square and yard stick to lay out the lines.
The photo above is with both leaves in...
You could easily seat 8...
How can you not love her legs??!?!?!
She's VERY girly....and I love the grey and yellow together....
We had another showing today.
But still no offers...
waiting is hard.

  1. I was thinking of asking how the sale was going when I read your last comment. Waiting is hard, but know that in His time...You will look back later and say, just think, if it was sooner... Great job on the table, I hate math problems like that tho...

  4. I love wood furniture rather than metal. Mainly classical designed furniture, your dining room chairs & table looks nice. But those also need to be match with other furniture in the room, unless you do that you can’t make a nice dining room.
