Slipcover love!

I 'm a huge fan of Miss Mustard Seed's blog.  She rocks.....and she did a 6 part video tutorial on how she slipcovers chairs using drop cloths.  (You can click on her yellow button on my side bar and do a search on her blog if you're interested in watching those.) So I watched them and decided to take the plunge.  This is what I now have  {$17 well spent}!

Several reasons for doing this.   The biggest being that I can now "wash" my furniture....if you have children you know what I mean.  I'll let you know how it holds up to the washing.
The next reason ---my furniture is hand me down from my younger sister who graciously gave it to me when she bought new furniture last year.  So I'd LOVE to be able to buy something new but when I look at the prices on sofas that I like.....uuuhhhh yeah it's gonna be awhile before I can afford to buy something.  And I don't really want to buy something anyways having two small dirt making machines. Back to the first reason--- I can wash it!
This is the FIRST slipcover I've ever sewn.  I've done alot of sewing.  However I've never done anything this large....I was pretty intimidated.
I'm THRILLED with how it came out.  I'm not a fan of the "frumpy" look of store bought slipcovers.  Not to mention the price of those too.   I haven't sewn on the ties in the back yet but I pinned it so I could do photos....

The sofa is next!!!!  I took some "during" photos and learned some things along the way see the "HERS" page if you're interested.
Check out the "HIS" page for a new copper bowl in progress...

  3. This looks amazing! I agree with you, I have done a lot of sewing, but these slipcovers really do look intimidating. I have even watched those videos of Miss Mustard Seed's, but I'm still at the I don't know stage.

  4. I will check out the videos. Yours looks great! I bought a dropcloth and even washed it, but haven't gotten enough courage to start. I also have a good bit of experience with sewing but this is something new. Great job!

  5. You did a great job. Very clean lines. Maybe someday I'll find the courage to try this. I used the drop cloths for curtains in my son's room but that was way easy. Not sure about recovering a piece of furniture. I'm impressed with yours!

  6. You can tell from the piping that you have done more than a little bit of sewing. Close-ups even! LOL
Looks great. So nice to have it washable that's for sure.

  8. Lovely job on the slipcover! I love MMS too! How did you get such a tailored look with the back scroll? I'm about to make a slipcover for my couch with a scrolled back. I've never made one like that before. Would love your tips on not getting the fabric to hang in the back.
