Metal topped table

Here she is in all her glory!!!!  I really just want to keep her now that she's done....:)  but alas she 's going to Winsome Cottage and will be going home with some other lucky person...

Here's a little "before" reminder.....

My husband did all the work on the galvanized top.  If you haven't already noticed from other posts on the blog he loves working with metal.
Nice little corner pieces to protect the edges all smooth and clean looking...a nice detail that finishes it all off.
Nicely aged surface that is sealed for use.
I really wanted to change the knobs out for something fun but they had to be cut off for that so I left them.
I'm really happy with her --curious to know what everyone else thinks!
I'm going to do one more thing for the chairs before I post some pictures of those girls.  This week was painting :) Next week will be back to sewing.

  7. I love it!!! My sister lives in a small apartment and has a little deep freezer. I told her we need to paint it, put a metal top on it, slap some wheels on it and use it as a island! The top can be used as a cutting board! I am going to show her your pictures and see if it inspires her too!!(wink)

Any chance you'd share what y'all used to cover this table? Thanks!

    1. Thanks so much! We've enjoyed posting and looking back over it all ourselves...nice to see it all in one spot. AND it's made me better at taking photos of all our "stuff"....for this table we used galvanized. It works great just harder to bend. For our more recent things we've used zinc which can be more expensive BUT it's food safe and much softer (easier to bend) plus you can solder the corners. Ask away...I'm always glad to share!

  9. Hi Rachel! I have a question about the little 'L' shape brackets you used on the corners of this table. Were those also galvanized metal? Where did you find them? I am thinking of doing a dinning table with a metal top, likely Zinc, since you speak so highly of working with Zinc. I'm wondering if I could use those little metal L brackets on the zinc table top as well. Thanks!

    1. Hi Danielle! Thanks for your comments...My husband made those :) They were pieces of galvanized cut (tin snips) filed with metal files and bent by hand. For Zinc you wouldn't need those since you can solder the corners BUT if you like the look you could cut pieces and file them. Those little tacks you mentioned in your other comment we bought at Lowe's. They're just little plated nails (photo hanging size). Just drill some pilot holes and nail them in....
