Coffee Filter wreaths

Oh the Holidays are fast approaching and this fall has been totally crazy.  I love blogging and reading all the creative ideas on other blogs but lately I have not had the time to do it....
But I do love decorating for the Holidays.....
Some new pillow shams....the one in the back is the felted cashmere sweater.  They are super cozy!!!
....and my friend that owns Winsome Cottage made a huge coffee filter wreath for her display window.  Which we'd talked about and I just kept thinking that all the photos I've seen on the blogs look great but photos can be deceiving.
After seeing hers I decided I wanted to give it a try!

And for those of you like me :) that want to see some detail here you go....I dipped mine in coffee so they aren't white....
The edges have a darker color to them which looks really cool...
And I used pieces of green flannel fabric to tie them to my curtain rod....
So here's what I used....200 8-12 cup coffee filters (about 100 per wreath)
 Glue gun and a pencil...
You use the pencil to help you glue the center of each filter to the form....

I dipped the outer edge of mine in coffee and I actually did this about 50 filters at a time...they were wet which makes them kind of stick together.  You could do this ahead of time and let them all dry....

So here's how they looked....the coffee keeps soaking into the filter so it kind of softens as they dry and continues to spread towards the center of the filter.
I was given MANY embroidery hoops by someone a long time so I decided to use what I had on hand.  My friend used a foam wreath form.  Mine are about 10-12 " in diameter.  I used one hoop (separated) since I wanted two wreaths.
Glued filters to the outside edge of the hoop....
And to the top edge of the hoop and just kept gluing gluing gluing....the second wreath went alot faster than the first one!
I'm very impressed with how they look...so if you've been thinking about it it's a super cheap way to make a really nice looking wreath.  They can be really expensive.

  2. I've heard of coffee dipped filters, but forgive me, I couldn't figure out if you dipped them first or after the wreath was made... go ahead and laugh... I may try this, you made it sound so simple, thanks.
